Chocolate Chip Pancakes Recipe

I absolutely love chocolate chip pancakes! They are easily my favorite type of pancake because it’s like having chocolate chip cookies for breakfast. For the same reason, I try to limit how often I make and eat them.

One thing about chocolate chip pancakes that I love is that they are so easy. It’s just a matter of making regular pancakes with chocolate chips in them. However, there are a couple ways to do this.

First, you need to make the regular pancakes. Here is my favorite pancake recipe that I use every time I want to make basic pancakes or pancakes with flavors such as chocolate chip pancakes. It’s a great basic recipe that lends well to batter additions. Also, you can add chocolate chips to many other batters such as peanut butter pancakes orchocolate pancakes.

How to Add Chocolate Chips to Pancake Batter

The first way to make chocolate chip pancakes, which is my preferred way, is to mix about 1/2 cup of chocolate chips right into the batter. You can use regular chocolate chips, but mini chocolate chips allow you to get a more even spread of chocolate in every bite.

The second way is to prepare your pancakes as you normally would, pour the batter onto the griddle and sprinkle the chocolate chips onto each pancake. I don’t like this way as much because the chocolate touches the griddle directly when the pancakes are flipped over which can get messy. The chocolate can also burn. I don’t recommend this method.

Adding Different Kinds of Chocolate

You can use this method with a variety of treats. Look for different flavored chips to add such as peanut butter chips, raspberry chips, cinnamon chips, butterscotch chips, or white chocolate chips. Try combining different kinds of chips such as chocolate and peanut butter or raspberry or butterscotch and white chocolate.

Do you have other candies that are your favorite? Chop them up and throw them in the batter. Do a rough chop so that it doesn’t mix in too much with the batter. For example, I love mound bars, the coconut candy bar. Chopping it up and throwing it in adds coconut and chocolate flavor.

Some things might taste great and others won’t turn out right. If you’re in the mood to experiment, try adding a little just to one pancake so you don’t ruin the whole batch. This can be done easily by sprinkling a little in the batter right in the measuring cup or ladle, stirring once or twice, then pouring on the pan. That way when you find out you can’t stand Butterfinger pancakes you won’t be out a whole batch!
